1. curriculum: (n.) the
courses that are taught by a school, college, etc.
e.g. The college has a liberal arts
curriculum.
2. dedicated (adj.) used only
for one particular purpose
e.g. A dedicated follower of the
television show who wouldn't dream of missing an episode
3. defrost: (v.) to warm something that is
frozen until it is no longer frozen
e.g. You can defrost the soup in
the microwave.
4. exhort: (v.) to try to influence
(someone) by words or advice
e.g. He exhorted his people to take
back their land.
5. follow: (v.) to go or come after or behind
(someone or something)
e.g. She followed us into the
kitchen.
6. Fossil fuel: (n.) a fuel
(such as coal, oil, or natural gas) that is formed in the earth from dead
plants or animals
e.g. Humans use oil and other
fossil fuels in their daily life such as cooking, driving a car, etc.
7. scratch: (v.) to rub your skin with
something sharp (such as your fingernails) especially in order to stop an itch
e.g. Will you scratch my back for
me?
8. organic: (adj.) of food : grown or made
without the use of artificial chemicals
e.g. This neighborhood is an
organic part of the city.
9. overhaul: (v.) to change (something)
completely in order to improve it
e.g. The mechanic overhauled the
car's engine.
10. produce: (v.) to make (something)
especially by using machines
e.g. Thousands of cars are produced
here each year.
11. remodel: (v.) to change the structure,
shape, or appearance of (something)
e.g. We remodeled the kitchen last
year.
12. spacious: (adj.) having a large amount of
space
e.g. Almost all of the guests were
able to fit into the spacious living room
13. stock: (n.) the supply of goods
available for sale in a store
e.g. They carry a large stock of
computer software.
14. acre: (n.) a measure of land area in
the U.S. and Britain that equals 4,840 square yards (about 4,047 square meters)
e.g. The house sits on two acres of
land.
15. advocate: (v.) a
person who argues for or supports a cause or policy
e.g. She works as a consumer
advocate.
16. cite: (n.) to write or say the words of
(a book, author, etc.)
e.g. The article cites several
experts on the subject.
17. consumption: (n.) the act
of eating or drinking something
e.g. The jet's high fuel consumption
makes it expensive to operate.
18. digest: (v.) to change (food that you
have eaten) by a biological process into simpler forms that can be used by the
body
e.g. He has trouble digesting
certain foods.
19. grain: (n.) a small, hard piece of
something
e.g. The machine grinds grain into
flour.
20. objection: (n.) a reason for disagreeing
with or opposing something : a reason for objecting
e.g. My main objection is that some
people will have to pay more than others.
21. defensive: (adj.) behaving in a way that
shows that you feel people are criticizing you
e.g. I was surprised by his
defensive reaction to my suggestion.
22. reluctantly: (adv.) feeling
or showing doubt about doing something : not willing or eager to do something
e.g. He might agree but seems
reluctant to admit it.
23. texture: (n.) the way that something feels
when you touch it
e.g. The plant's leaves are almost
leathery in texture.
24. willing: (adj.) not refusing to do
something
e.g. He was a willing participant
in the crime.
25. dietary: (adj.) of or relating to a diet
e.g. Many of our patients have
special dietary needs.
