1.Shopping weeks: Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday, much like Black FridayFor many merchants, Boxing Day has become the day of the year with the greatest number of returns.

2.WASP: is an informal, sometimes disparaging term [1] for a group of high-status and influential White Americans of English Protestant ancestry.


Harvard University, historically a favored university for the WASP elite.

















3. Prefixes:
[ori-] =) beginning (orient, original, orientation)

[hypo-] =) under (hypothesis, hypodermic)

[en-] =) become stronger (broaden, encourage, enlarge, deepen, strengthen, widen)

4. Suffixes:
[-thesis] =) statement (hypothesis)

[-ly] =) adv. (exception: friendly, lovely, elderly, deadly)

5. person: actor, artist, musician, teacher, contestant, attendant, applicant, protestant, Protestant, Christian)

1. catchy: (adj.) Attractive or appealing, Easily remembered.

e.g. Someone is playing a song with a catchy tune.


2. consciousness (n.) the state or condition of being conscious

e.g.The patient lost consciousness.


3.device: (n.)  a piece of equipment intended for a particular 


purpose

e.g.The television receiver is an electronic device.


4. familiar: (adj.) something that  is easy to recognize


e.g. Your face seems familiar.


5. function: (n.) the purpose that something is made for

                 (v.) something works in the way it is supposed to

e.g. The refrigerator is not functioning well.

6. get rid of:  discard or get free of

e.g. He was a boring nuisance! I'm glad to get rid of him.

7. hum: (n.)  a low continuous sound

e.g. The refrigerator motor hummed.

8. infect (v.) to give someone a disease

e.g. The flu virus infected almost the entire class.

9. invade: (v.)  to enter a country, or area using military 

force, in order to take control of it

e.g. The Normans invaded England in 1066.

10. itch: (n.) an uncomfortable feeling on your skin 

e.g. I have an itch on my left hand.

11. phenomenon: (n.) something that happens or exists, 


especially something that is studied because it is not 

understood

e.g. The employment problem tends to be a city 


phenomenon.

12. subject: (n.) a conversation, discussion, book, film etc


e.g. He has read many books on the subject.


13. susceptible: (adj.) likely to suffer from a particular illness 


or be affected by a particular problem

e.g. We are all susceptible to advertising.


14. tune: (v.) to make a musical instrument play at the right 


pitch

               (v.) to make an engine work as well as possible


e.g. He tuned his violin before he started playing.


15. content: (n.) contents the things that are inside a box, 


bag, room etc
               

                    (n.) the things that are written in a letter, book etc

e.g. She seems content to live with him.


16.reinforce: (v.) to give support to an opinion, idea, or 

feeling

e.g. The general reinforced the fort with more troops.


17. cognitive (adj.) the process of knowing, understanding, 


and learning something

e.g. She learned cognitive psychology in the school.


18. annoy: (v.) to make someone feel slightly angry and 


unhappy about something

e.g. These flies are annoying me.


19. brainy: informal -able to learn easily and think quickly


e.g. Jane answers questions quickly. She is brainy.


20. distantly (adj.) far from where you are now


e.g. The sun is distant from the earth.


21. expert: (n.) someone who has a special skill or special 


knowledge of a subject

e.g. She is an expert in training animals.


22. function: (n.)  the purpose that something is made for, or 


the job that someone does

                     (v.) if something functions, it works in the way it 


is supposed to

e.g. The refrigerator is not functioning well.


23. infectious: (adj.) someone who is infectious has an 


illness and could pass it to other people

e.g. Their enthusiasm was infectious.


24. itchy: (adj.) an unpleasant feeling that makes you want to 


rub it with your nails

e.g.  My foot is itchy. I am scratching where it is itching.


25. musical: (adj.) connected with music or consisting of 


music

e.g. He has a musical speaking voice.
